Vol. 482 No. 6

Written Answers. - Telecommunications Masts.

Liam Aylward

Question:

94 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if her attention has been drawn to the grave concern of local residents comprising development groups and parish committees, who represent parents, children and the elderly, of the proposed erection of a 100 foot mast at the new Garda station currently under construction at Kilmacow, County Kilkenny; and if her Department will liaise with those people who are responsible objectors and with whom there was never any consultation in order to find a satisfactiory conclusion to this development. [18535/97]

I am aware of the very real concerns felt by many individuals and groups around the country in relation to the erection of communications masts and I am anxious to alleviate those concerns as much as possible.

However, I understand that the mast referred to is in fact intended solely for the use of the Garda and as such is a matter for the Garda authorities. Accordingly, I have no direct function in relation to the matter.
