Vol. 482 No. 6

Written Answers. - National Economic and Social Forum.

Ivan Yates

Question:

112 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she has read the report of the National Economic and Social Forum No. 10 in relation to equality proofing issues; the recommendations, if any, she will implement across the range of her Departmental responsibilities and semi-State companies under her aegis; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18559/97]

Report No. 10 of the National Economic and Social Forum is a brief but very comprehensive one. Very many of the recommendations are of general application and not specific to my Department and its agencies. The report recommends that State companies and agencies should, so to speak, lead by example in relation to equality proofing. In view of the pervasiveness of State organisations of one kind or another in the economy. I accept that this is an appropriate recommendation.

In this regard, and in relation to recommendations which are more specific to the sectors under my aegis, I intend to actively promote implementation of the report.
