Vol. 482 No. 8

Written Answers. - Unestablished Civil Servant's Pensions.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

162 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Finance whether retired unestablished civil servants will receive the increases recently announced by him in relation to pension parity; if so, the estimated annual cost in this regard; and the number of unestablished civil servants whose pensions will be adjusted. [19656/97]

Unestablished civil servants who retired before the commencement dates of relevant restructuring deals under the Programme for Competitiveness and Work will benefit from the pension increases I announced on 4 November 1997. As regards the cost in relation to this group and the numbers involved, I have not definitive figures at this stage. I can, however, say that there were 4,202 retired unestablished officers and 1,764 spouses in receipt of pension in 1997.
