Vol. 482 No. 8

Written Answers. - Air Bags in Cars.

Michael Ring

Question:

196 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, his Department has to inform people of the possible health hazard of airbags in cars; and whether his Department has a media campaign organised to highlight this matter. [19575/97]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 124 of 9 October, 1997.

With a view to providing public information on this matter, the National Safety Council has published a road safety leaflet on the wearing of seat belts which cautions against using a rearward facing child restraint in the front seat where an air bag is fitted. This leaflet has been widely circulated and is available to members of the public on request.
