Written Answers. - Provisional Licences.

David Stanton

Question:

200 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of people who hold provisional driving licences in the various categories; the number of these that are the result of repeat applications; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19596/97]

The total number of provisional licences current at December, 1996 was 417,474. The more detailed information sought is not compiled by my Department pending the completion of the computerised national driver licensing file which is currently being developed.
