Vol. 482 No. 8

Written Answers. - Departmental Funding.

Question:

281 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason for the 100 per cent increase in the estimated funding requirement for his Department under the miscellaneous heading; if he will give details of spending categories; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19685/97]

The 100 per cent increase in the net total allocation contained in the Abridged Estimates Volume for 1998 for Vote 26: Office of the Minister for Education and Science is mainly due to the allocation of £100 million in subhead B.19 for the Education Technology Investment Fund.

The provision of £1,444,000 in the miscellaneous subhead B.17 is for a programme related to tackling issues of educational disadvantage details of which I will announce shortly.
