Vol. 482 No. 8

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Michael Ring

Question:

39 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of farmers who received additional gallons from the milk quota hardship tribunal in 1996 and 1997; the quantity in gallons approved for each county; if he will give a percentage breakdown of the grounds for these allocations that is financial or medical and so on; and the amount of gallons which are available for the third stage of the 1997 temporary leasing scheme for milk quotas. [19439/97]

During the 1996/97 milk quota year 1.1 million gallons of milk were allocated to 976 successful applicants on the recommendation of the Milk Quota Appeals Tribunal. Statistics on the allocations in the format requested are not available. Each application is judged on its own merits.

Arrangements for the third stage of the 1997/98 temporary leasing scheme have not yet been announced and therefore it is not possible to say how much milk might be available. All transactions under the third stage must be completed by 31 December 1997 and the information requested will not be available until after that date.
