Vol. 482 No. 8

Written Answers. - Agrimonetary Compensation.

Andrew Boylan

Question:

47 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the current position in relation to the £7.5 million included for milk, grain and beet producers in the previous Government's national agri-monetary compensation package; if he will make payments of these moneys to farmers; and, if so, when payment will be made in this regard. [19426/97]

I decided to double the national agri-monetary compensation for cereals from £2.82 to approximately £5.64 per hectare. As a result, the total amount of the national compensation package in respect of agrimonetary losses to producers of milk, cereals and sugar beet will amount to £8.3 million made up as follows: milk, £6.4 million; cereals, £1.6 million; sugar beet, £0.3 million.

Payments to producers will commence when, and if, the necessary Supplementary Estimate is passed by this House. The Supplementary Estimate will be presented to the Dáil tomorrow.
