Brendan Kenneally

Question:

118 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his Department will approve payment to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford in relation to 1996 area aid payment, particularly in view of the fact that the person was in hospital at the time the form was returned which explains the error that occurred; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19409/97]

This applicant was paid £1,074.32 on 2 December 1996 in respect of his 1996 arable area aid application. My Department received a letter from him on 17 October 1997 stating that he never received the relevant cheque.

On investigation, it has been discovered that the cheque was cashed on 9 December 1996. I am arranging to have a photocopy of the cheque forwarded to the person named.
