208 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will have arrangements made to have the area aid application of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny dealt with in order that payment of various premiums can be made; and the reason the applicant was not notified of the problem with his area aid until he made inquiries by phone to be told that it would be three weeks before his query could be dealt with. An unsigned area aid application form was received from the person named. This unsigned application was returned to the person named requesting his signature. When this application is returned duly signed payments can issue to the herdowner.

209 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim will receive his cattle headage and suckler cow premium and his REPS payment. [21370/97]

An application from the person named for a third year payment under the REPS has been received in my Department and has been randomly selected for a compliance inspection. This inspection will be carried out within the next two weeks and, provided that the report is satisfactory, a payment will issue shortly thereafter.

With regard to the applications submitted under the cattle headage and suckler cow premium schemes, the following payments have now issued to the person named: £1,155.96 in respect of 1997 cattle headage application; £673.10 in respect of 1997 suckler cow application.

The person named has been paid the full amount due to him under the 1997 cattle headage and sheep headage schemes. He was paid £3,026.67 in respect of cattle headage and £2,000 in respect of sheep headage.

The person named will be paid the advance on his 1997 suckler cow premium within the next two weeks.

A producer is only allowed lodge one suckler cow premium application during any calendar year. On 30 May 1997 the person named lodged a 1997 suckler cow premium application, with his cattle headage application, on a composite application form but indicated that he intended to apply for the suckler scheme in October 1997. He did not apply. His May application is now being processed and, if found to be in order, payment will be made shortly.
