Vol. 483 No. 6

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

John Perry

Question:

272 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be called for his operation; and if it can be given priority under the circumstances of the case in view of the fact that he is currently in hospital. [21022/97]

I understand that Beaumont Hospital has confirmed that the person concerned is on its waiting list for admission but that it is not possible to indicate precisely when he will be admitted. I am sure that the Deputy will understand that the scheduling of admission to hospital is a matter for the consultant concerned and is determined solely on the basis of medical priority.

Question:

273 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will arrange a hip replacement operation for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12 who is suffering extreme discomfort as a result of the delays in having this operation. [21067/97]

As the provision of treatment to the person concerned, in this instance, is the responsibility of the Adelaide Hospital, I have asked the chief executive officer of the hospital to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly as a matter of urgency.

Question:

274 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon will be called for her operation in view of the problems she is encountering. [21068/97]

I understand from the details supplied by the Deputy that the person in question is awaiting surgery at Sligo General Hospital. The provision of health services at Sligo General Hospital is the responsibility of the North-Western Health Board. I have asked the chief executive officer of the North-Western Health Board to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.
