Vol. 483 No. 6

Written Answers. - Rural Resettlement.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

300 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will make a direct payment to Rural Resettlement Kerry, in view of this very important work; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21144/97]

Since 1992, my Department has paid grants totalling £280,000 towards the administrative and general expenses of Rural Resettlement Ireland in respect of their housing-related activities, including £65,000 this year. These grants were to assist the housing related activities of RRI in all counties, including Kerry. In the circumstances, I regret that there are no funds available to me to pay a separate grant to Rural Resettlement Kerry. It would be a matter for Rural Resettlement Kerry to approach RRI for any assistance or support they might be in a position to offer.
