Question:

355 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the number of permits which were issued in each of the years from 1990 to date in 1997 to hunt wild animals or birds on State lands, foreshore, inland waters or lakeshore accretions as required by section 30 of the Wildlife Act, 1976, which sets out the number of permits under the appropriate headings that is inland waters, land, lakeshore accretions or foreshore. The number of permits issued under section 30 of the Wildlife Act, 1976 giving permission to hunt fauna on or over State foreshore or State land which is either covered by an inland waters or comprised in the lakeshore accretion from any lake, in the period 1990 to date is as follows: 1990, 504; 1991, 365; 1992, 293; 1993, 457; 1994, 490; 1995, 606; 1996, 658; 1997 (to date), 533.

The information sought in relation to the numbers of permits issued relating to inland waters, lakeshore accretions or foreshore, respectively, is not readily available and the resources required to collate such information could not be justified.
