Vol. 483 No. 6

Written Answers. - Court Procedures.

Jim Higgins

Question:

398 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has satisfied himself that all 33 cases of extended detention under section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, were granted by a judge assigned by the President of the District Court. [21341/97]

I do not consider that it would be appropriate for me to answer a question in this House which might be seen to carry implication for the validity or otherwise of procedures followed in relation to cases before the courts. It is a matter for the courts to decide such matters and a matter for the parties involved to raise matters that might be relevant to proceedings in the courts.
