Vol. 483 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Denis Naughten

Question:

400 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of gardaí stationed in the station in Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon; the opening hours of the station; and the plans, if any, there are to increase Garda numbers in this station. [21343/97]

The detailed deployment of Garda personnel to individual areas is a matter for the Garda authorities. They have informed me that the current personnel strength (as at 31 November 1997) of Ballaghadereen Garda station is one sergeant and five gardaí and that the opening hours of the station are 10 a.m. to 1.15 p.m. each day. I am further informed that special foot patrols which operate between midnight and 4 a.m. have been introduced in the area at weekends.

The Garda authorities inform me that they are satisfied that the policing arrangements in place for Ballaghaderreen are adequate and that there are no plans at present to increase the current allocation of Garda personnel for the area.
