Vol. 483 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Question:

416 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans, if any, he has to construct new Garda stations in the coming financial year; and if he will list the Garda stations he will approve for repair work in 1998. [21547/97]

The building and major refurbishment of Garda stations is carried out in conformity with a priority list compiled in consultation with Garda management, the Garda Representative Associations and the Office of Public Works.

A number of projects which are ongoing at present will continue during 1998. These are Blanchardstown, Terenure, Waterford, Lixnaw, Kilmacow, Store Street, Clonakilty, Kenmare, Kilkenny, Ballinspittle, Sneem and Kilmainham. In addition to the above projects, work will commence in 1998 on as many of the stations which are next on the priority list as resources will allow. Maintenance work on Garda stations is carried out as it arises. It is not possible, therefore, to give a comprehensive list of stations where works will be undertaken.
