Vol. 483 No. 6

Written Answers. - Crime Victims.

Question:

436 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the measures, if any, he has taken on a victim's charter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21569/97]

I am fully committed to the preparation of a new charter for victims of crime, as indicated in the Programme for Government. As part of a broad consultative process in this regard, I am hosting a conference on victims of crime next week which will involve the participation of a very wide range of organisations involved in the support of crime victims. I am looking forward to examining the outcome of this conference both in terms of developing an integrated approach to victim care and to producing a victim charter which reflects the significant emphasis which I will be placing on this aspect of my general policy on crime.
