Vol. 483 No. 6

Written Answers. - Prosecution Service.

Question:

438 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans, if any, he has to establish a unified prosecution service by combining the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Chief State Solicitors office; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21571/97]

The Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform has no responsibility for the administration of the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions or that of the Chief State Solicitor. However, I understand that matters relating to the future arrangements for the co-ordination of work of the law offices of the State were considered by a review group established in September 1996. The report of the group is due to be considered by the Government shortly.
