Vol. 483 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Enda Kenny

Question:

488 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education and Science the current status of an application for extension of a school (details supplied) in County Mayo; if this application will be released to tender; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21351/97]

The architectural planning of an extension to this school is proceeding. The combined stage four-five submission that is detail design-contract documents was submitted to my Department recently and is currently being examined by my Department's technical staff. Every effort is being made to have the planning of the extension completed as soon as possible.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

489 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the inadequate conditions in a school (details supplied) in County Donegal; and the plans, if any, there are to improve the current structure or to provide a new school. [21352/97]

I am aware that conditions at the school to which the Deputy refers are less than satisfactory. An initial inspection of the current structure suggests that refurbishment is not feasible. A further inspection of the premises, and of a potential site identified by the school management for the construction of a new school, will take place shortly. My Department will be in further contact with the school as soon as possible.
