Vol. 483 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

510 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science when it is proposed to provide for the modernisation and refurbishment of Cappawhite national school, County Tipperary, which has 149 pupils in a five teacher school, in view of the fact that the school is 101 years old and is in need of basic facilities like proper toilets, adequate classrooms, assembly, storage and play area, as well as basic accommodation for the teaching staff; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21529/97]

The capital funding available this year was allocated in full by my predecessor and I am not in a position to take on additional commitments. The needs of Cappawhite national school will be considered in the light of future capital allocations. At this stage, I am not in a position to give a timescale for a project at the school.
