Vol. 483 No. 6

Written Answers. - Irish Horse Racing Authority.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Question:

148 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the net profit or loss of the horse racing totalisator operated by the Irish Horse Racing Authority in each of the past five years; and the estimated net profit or loss for 1997. [20966/97]

This is a matter for the Irish Horse Racing Authority which was established on 1 December 1994. I understand that the information sought for the years 1995 and 1996 is available from the annual report and accounts of the Authority for those years and a forecast of profits for the year 1997 is available at page 49 of its strategic plan for the years 1997-2001.

The racing board had responsibility for the horse-racing sector for years prior to 1995. The information sought is not readily available in respect of those years.
