Monica Barnes

Question:

26 Mrs. Barnes asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has received an interim report from the task force on people with a disability in sport set up earlier in 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21280/97]

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

59 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will establish a people with a disability task force to deal with the role of people with a disability in sport. [21282/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 26 and 59 together.

The task force on people with a disability in sport, established under the Irish Sports Council, held its first meeting on 20 June 1997. The aim of the task force is to develop initiatives to improve the participation of people with a disability in sport.

While the final report of the task force is due to be completed by July 1998, I expect to receive an interim report later this month.
