29 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will give details of the recent announcement of the additional £5 million granted to regional tourism boards and the purposes for which this money will be used. [21487/97]

Louis J. Belton

Question:

80 Mr. Belton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the activities, if any, which are planned to benefit the north-west in view of the recently announced £5 million for the promotion of tourism overseas with particular emphasis on the regions. [21444/97]

Seán Barrett

Question:

81 Mr. Barrett asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the areas on which the extra £5 million allocated by his Department to Bord Fáilte will be spent; and the discussions, if any, he has had with Bord Fáilte in this regard. [21277/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 29, 80 and 81 together.

When I announced last month that I was making up to £5 million extra available to Bord Fáilte to facilitate an increase in its level of promotional activity in the coming year, I asked the board to design a series of additional, new initiatives for inclusion in its 1998 campaign, targeted not only at maintaining tourism growth, but more particularly at addressing regional spread.

I expect to be in a position to announce details of Bord Fáilte's new initiatives on completion of my Department's Supplementary Estimate for 1997 which I will be presenting to the House for approval next week.
