Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

43 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the progress, if any, made in relation to the commitment given in An Action Programme for the Millennium regarding the appointment of local authority sports and leisure officers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21430/97]

Michael Ferris

Question:

57 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the number, if any, of sports and leisure appointments which have been made within each county council and corporation area; if so, whether further appointments will be made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21497/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 43 and 57 together.

I intend initiating discussions early next year with my colleague, the Minister for the Environment and Local Government, regarding further development of proposals for local authority sports and leisure officers in line with the commitment in An Action Programme for the Millennium.
