Vol. 484 No. 4

Written Answers - Foreshore Survey.

Austin Deasy

Question:

29 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if his attention has been drawn to the concern of fishermen and particularly lobster fishermen at the dredging operation off Portally cove, Dunmore East, County Waterford which they feel will affect their livelihoods; if his Department have granted permission for this activity; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22342/97]

I am aware of the fishermen's concerns and I am satisfied from the expert advice available that the relatively small scale pilot survey of sea bed material carried out off Dunmore East did not or will not affect any fisherman's livelihood. A foreshore licence was granted for the survey.

I refer the Deputy to the detailed reply delivered to Parliamentary Question No. 88 on 27 November last.
