Vol. 484 No. 4

Written Answers - Flood Relief.

Michael Ferris

Question:

49 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the consultations, if any, his Department has had with the Office of Public Work regarding the preparation of plans in relation to flooding on the River Suir particularly in Clonmel and Carrick-on-Suir; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22325/97]

I am advised that the Office of Public Works, which has responsibility for the preparation of plans to relieve flooding in the Clonmel and Carrick-on-Suir areas, has asked the Central Fisheries Board to carry out the fisheries component of the environmental impact statement on the proposed flood relief schemes at Clonmel and Carrick-on-Suir. The Southern Regional Fisheries Board will assist the Central Fisheries Board in undertaking this fisheries survey work. I understand that the Southern Regional Fisheries Board has also had regular consultations with the Office of Public Works in relation to the preparation of plans for flood relief on the rivers Nore at Kilkenny and Barrow at Carlow.

I can also advise the Deputy that the Southern Regional Fisheries Board is a member of the South Eastern Regional Authority which established a regional flooding forum to tackle problems associated with flooding in the region.
