79 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Health and Children the areas of responsibility of his Ministers of State; the budget for 1998 for his Department and if they have autonomy in relation to their areas of responsibility. [22562/97]

The areas of responsibility of the Ministers of State of this Department are listed below. This information is available in Statutory Instrument Nos. 401 and 402 respectively of 1997 under which certain powers and duties of the Minister for Health and Children in relation to the areas specified have been delegated to the Ministers of State concerned.

Minister of State, Deputy Tom Moffatt: Areas of responsibility — Section 5 and Part V of the Health Act, 1947 (No. 28 of 1947); Food Standards Act, 1974 (No. 11 of 1974); Sale of Food and Drugs Acts, 1875 to 1936; Milk and Dairies Acts, 1935 to 1988; Sections 6, 7(2) and 10(2)(a) of the Health (Nursing Homes) Act 1990 (No. 23 of 1990).

Minister of State, Deputy Frank Fahey: Areas of responsibility — Adoption Acts, 1952 to 1991; Childrens Acts, 1908 to 1989; Child Care Act, 1991 (No. 17 of 1991).
The gross Health and Children Vote for 1998, excluding compensation under the hepatitis C Tribunal Compensation Act is £3,011 million, including £147 million — Exchequer — for capital expenditure. An additional £100 million has been allocated to the Vote for hepatitis C costs under the above Act.
