Question:

131 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Defence the compensation for death or personal injuries sustained by members of the Local Defence Force in relation to the Army Pensions Vote which was paid in each of the years from 1995 to date in 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23310/97]

Details of expenditure under subhead F of the Vote for Army Pensions by way of periodic compensation to or in respect of former members of the Local Defence Force — which ceased to exist in 1946 — are as follows (rounded to nearest £100):- 1995, £24,500; 1996, £25,100; 1997, £23,700 (to end November).

There are nine beneficiaries at present.
