Vol. 485 No. 3

Written Answers. - Electricity Industry Restructuring.

John Gormley

Question:

88 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if her Department has appointed a second set of consultants to review proposals for the deregulation of the electricity sector in view of the objection submitted to her by the Department of the Environment and Local Government and by Earthwatch and the report submitted by NERA did not adequately address issues of environmental protection, CO 2 abatement or principles of sustainable development. [23365/97]

A wide and varied number of comments was received in response to a consultation paper issued by my Department in May of this year on the restructuring of the electricity industry.

All of the comments received, including those of Earthwatch and the Department of the Environment and Local Government, are currently being evaluated by my Department.

I see no need to appoint a second set of consultants in this regard.
