David Stanton

Question:

106 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Defence if he will provide a list of the approved tailors in relation to making officers uniforms; and the agreements, approval or controls, if any, which are in place regarding the cost of making these uniforms in relation to the difference between the actual cost and the initial allowance. [23251/97]

The current list of approved tailors held by my Department in relation to making officers uniforms is as follows: Mr. Richard Pender, 4 Manor Street, Dublin 7; Mr. D. P. Meade, 30A Olivemount Road, Dundrum, Dublin 14; Mr. Arthur Ellis, 7 Lower Mallow Street, Limerick; Mr. Louis Copeland, 30 Capel Street, Dublin 1, and 30 Lower Pembroke Street, Dublin 2; Martin of Ireland Ltd., No. 1 Teeling Street, Sligo; Mr. David Young, 7 Francis Street, Galway; Moynihan's Tailors, 7 Parliament Street, Cork; Mr. Thomas Wolfangel, 158 Pembroke Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4; Mr. John Cullen, 341 Ballyfermot Road, Dublin 10; Hugh Burrows, Shannon Embroidery Co. Ltd., Clonard Road, Balbriggan, County Dublin and Mr. Denis Darcy, 66 Capel Street, Dublin 1.

Defence Force Regulations prescribe the articles of uniform with which an officer of the Permanent Defence Force is required to provide him-herself and in respect of which an allowance is payable. Under the Defence (Amendment) Act, 1990, matters relating to pay and allowances come within the scope of representation of the Permanent Defence Force Other Ranks Representative Association, PDFORRA and the Representative Association for Commissioned Officers, RACO and may be processed through the Conciliation and Arbitration Scheme for the Permanent Defence Force which was established in agreement with the associations. The rates of uniform allowance are intended to reflect the actual cost to the officer of such articles of uniform and the rates payable are determined following negotiation and agreement with the representative associations.
