Vol. 485 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Minimum Wage Commission.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

66 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment when a report by the National Minimum Wage Commission will be finalised and published; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23461/97]

I have recently received a progress report from the chairperson of the National Minimum Wage Commission, Ms Evelyn Owens. The progress report details the work and activities of the commission to date.

The chairperson has advised me that it is not possible for the commission to complete its work by the timescale envisaged in its terms of reference, because of the time taken to conduct necessary research and to consider the volume of evidence received by the commission from interested parties.

I am informed that the commission hopes to submit a final report during March, 1998.
