840 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will ensure that County Wicklow VEC is given immediate sanction for funding in view of the dangerous condition of the roof of the Arklow Community College and the fact that it is unable to accept responsibility for possible injury due to departmental delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. An application from County Wicklow Vocational Education Committee for repairs to the roof at Arklow Community College, County Wicklow has been examined by my Department.
It has been recommended to County Wicklow Vocational Education Committee that the necessary repair work should be carried out on a phased basis and that tender documentation for phase one of the repairs to the roof at this school should now be prepared.
I wish to point out that it is the responsibility of the vocational education committee in the first instance to ensure the health and safety of students and teachers in its schools.
