55 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if he has concluded his examination of the possible establishment of a board to supervise the financing and operation of the Social Insurance Fund; the outcome of any such examination; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am fully committed to enhancing and developing social insurance.
In that context, the consultation process on the social insurance discussion document is under way. In the light of the outcome of this process I will be considering the most appropriate mechanisms and approaches for future development. I also expect within a few months to receive the report on the national pensions policy initiative which is being formulated in conjunction with the Pensions Board and I anticipate that this will provide me with useful additional perspectives in this area.
