Vol. 486 No. 5

Written Answers. - Action Against Tobacco Industry.

Nora Owen

Question:

65 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Health and Children the action, if any, he is taking to deal with people who are taking action against tobacco companies; and if he will report on a recent meeting in his Department on this issue. [2913/98]

Senior officials from my Department have met the solicitor representing the group of people who are taking an action against the tobacco industry. I have set up a group representative of the administrative, medical and legal professions within the health service to examine the issue. When the work of the group is completed and a report made to me I will then consult with the Government on the matter.
