Vol. 487 No. 1

Written Answers. - Security Measures.

Nora Owen

Question:

133 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason work has not commenced on the erection of a security fence at Oberstown Centre, Lusk, County Dublin. [3495/98]

The proposed security fence is one of a range of measures planned to increase security at the Oberstown campus. Other measures planned include the introduction of campus lighting and access control. In planning for these developments, it has been necessary to address a range of complex technical issues relating to the type of fencing to be used, the positioning of the fencing in relation to buildings on the campus and the types of access controls most suitable to the activities conducted on the campus. I understand that the issues involved have now been largely resolved and that arrangements are proceeding as speedily as possible.
