Vol. 487 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Michael Ferris

Question:

58 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has received an application from Canon Hayes sports centre in Tipperary town for grant assistance; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3311/98]

A grant of £50,000 was allocated to the centre in July 1997 under the sports capital programme. Before payment can be made, a deed of trust must be executed and this is currently being arranged by the Chief State Solicitor's Office and the solicitors acting on behalf of the centre.

The centre recently applied for a further grant of £890,000 towards the cost of major developments costing in the region of £1.27 million. My Department is currently examining all applications on hands from various clubs and organisations around the country seeking grant assistance under the programme, in the context of the 1998 round of grant allocations. The application from the centre will be considered in the context of this examination.
