A preliminary report for this scheme has been approved. Given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage services investment programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to advance the project.
227 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the inconvenience and anxiety the lack of running water is creating for residents in the Cappataggle area of Ballinasloe, County Galway; and if he will make available the necessary funding as prioritised by Galway County Council to enable their group scheme to proceed in 1998. Burke asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will provide a special contribution of £200,000 towards the Cappataggle group water scheme in County Galway in order that work can start in this long overdue scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Block grant allocations in respect of the rural water programme, including allocations for group water scheme capital grants and European Regional Development Fund assistance for schemes approved under the operational programme for Environmental Services, will be notified to local authorities shortly.
