Vol. 487 No. 6

Written Answers - Hazardous Waste Disposal.

John Gormley

Question:

233 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the regulations that apply on the dumping of hazardous materials. [4646/98]

In so far as regulations relate to areas for which my Department has responsibility, waste disposal activities are subject to controls by the Environmental Protection Agency and local authorities, as appropriate, under the Waste Management (Licensing) Regulations, 1997, the European Communities (Waste Oils) Regulations, 1992, the European Communities (Asbestos Waste) Regulations, 1990, the European Communities (Toxic and Dangerous Waste) Regulations, 1982 and the European Communities (Toxic and Dangerous Waste) Regulations, 1982 and the European Communities (Waste) Regulations, 1979. These controls are generally additional to any requirements under other statutes including the Local Government (Planning and Development) Acts.
