Vol. 487 No. 6

Written Answers - Plastic Bags Tax.

Joe Higgins

Question:

239 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government whether he intends to introduce a tax on plastic bags in view of the fact that over 9.6 million plastic bags are used just once each week in Ireland, equivalent to some 190 tonnes of plastic and 860,000 litres of oil; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4841/98]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 272 of 25 November 1997. The position is unchanged.
