Vol. 487 No. 6

Written Answers - Greenhouse Gases.

Joe Higgins

Question:

240 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the research, if any, which has been carried out to date on the production and use of trace greenhouse gases, HFCs, PFCs and SF 6, introduced into the Kyoto Protocol, apart from the gases covered by the EU burden sharing agreement. [4842/98]

There is no known production of these gases in Ireland. Work is under way, by the Environmental Protection Agency at my Department's request, to compile data on the importation and use of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and sulphur hexafluoride (SF 6). This will include data on emissions of these gases and projections for the Kyoto Protocol commitment period 2008-12.
