Vol. 487 No. 6

Written Answers - Special Amenity Areas.

Tony Gregory

Question:

242 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, there are to extend the special amenity area order over the entire Liffey valley to include Chapelizod and Islandbridge. [4845/98]

The making or extending of a special amenity area order is a matter for the relevant local authority under section 42 of the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963. While the Minister may, under section 42 (1A) of the same Act, direct a local authority to make such an order, it is essentially a matter for the local authority involved in the first place. I am not aware of any proposals to extend this special amenity area order.
