Vol. 487 No. 6

Written Answers - Registration of Title Committee.

Alan Shatter

Question:

289 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when the Registration of Title Committee last sat as required pursuant to section 75(1) of the Courts of Justice Act, 1936; when this committee last reported to him on any changes required to the Land Registry rules; the number of reports that have been made to him and his predecessors in each of the past ten years; the action, if any, taken pursuant to any of these reports; and if he will publish each report. [4670/98]

While the Act provides that the committee should meet once a year in practice, due to the fact that there was no business to be transacted at such a meeting, no meeting has, in fact, been called since 4 July 1986.

Removal of the requirement on the committee to meet once a year is one of a number of changes to the relevant legislation which are contemplated in the context of new legislation to change the status of the registries.

The members of the committee are as follows: Miss Justice Mella Carroll, chairperson, Mr. James Dwyer, SC, Mr. Rory McEntee, Solicitor and Ms Catherine Treacy, head of the Land Registry, secretary.
