Vol. 487 No. 6

Written Answers - Killings in Algeria.

Richard Bruton

Question:

296 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the Government's plans, if any, to assist the citizens in Algeria; if he will take international action to bring an end to the killings there; and the special provisions, if any, his Department is making to deal with refugees from Algeria. [4984/98]

I understand that my colleague, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, is responding to the first two parts of the Deputy's question.

In so far as the final part of the Deputy's question is concerned, as with all other applicants for refugee status, asylum seekers from Algeria will have their applications considered in accordance with the provisions of the Refugee Act, 1996, and the procedures set out in my Department's letter to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees of 10 December 1997, as appropriate.
