Vol. 487 No. 6

Written Answers - Tourism Funding.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

306 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if funds have been or will be allocated to either Bord Fáilte or the regional tourism boards throughout the country in which there is representation of various interests, including local authorities; if funds are allocated on the basis of the requirements as outlined by the respective boards or whether a block grant is issued with the discretion for expenditure to be left with the authorities to whom the grant is made available; if his Department sets out any pre-conditions in respect of the areas or headings on which expenditure might be incurred; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4958/98]

Information about the funds allocated to Bord Fáilte for promotional and marketing activity with a regional focus is contained in my reply to Question No. 70 on 11 February last and in my address to the Dáil Select Committee on Tourism, Sport and Recreation on 11 December 1997. The actual distribution of those funds, including any allocations to the regional tourism authorities, is a matter for Bord Fáilte. I will forward to the Deputy the text of my address to the Dáil Select Committee.
