Written Answers - School Placement.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

353 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will have arrangements made for a suitable educational placement for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin in view of the fact that he has been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome condition; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4948/98]

My Department has been actively engaged in seeking to arrange a suitable educational placement for the child in question.

I would be hopeful that the necessary arrangements will be put in place shortly to accommodate the child's educational needs.

Question:

354 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will have arrangements made for an appropriate educational placement for a person (details supplied) in view of the fact that he has been diagnosed as a high functioning autistic; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4949/98]

My Department's inspectorate is in ongoing contact with the mother of the child in question.

I understand that the child was assessed very recently and that the assessment report is currently awaited. As soon as the assessment report comes to hand, the question of a suitable placement will be pursued.
