Vol. 487 No. 6

Written Answers - National Minimum Wage.

Seán Haughey

Question:

90 Mr. Haughey asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will introduce a £5 per hour minimum wage; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4703/98]

Last July I set up a commission to report to the Government on the best way to implement the commitment in the programme for Government to introduce a national minimum hourly wage. The chairperson of the commission, Ms Evelyn Owens, informed me last December that the commission hopes to finalise its report in March.

On receipt of the final report of the commission I will bring forward proposals to Government.
