Vol. 487 No. 6

Written Answers - Arts Funding.

John Perry

Question:

106 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the current position in relation to the application received from a body (details supplied); the funds, if any, available for them to perform in Ireland as RTE will film the production; the funds available for the group to stage the production in the United States; the amount of funds allocated; when they will be received; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4959/98]

The cultural relations committee of the Department received an application from this body to stage the production in question in the United Kingdom, and this will be considered at the committee's next meeting on 5 March 1998. The applicants will be informed directly by the Department of the outcome and I will inform the Deputy. If a grant is approved, it will be paid upon receipt of evidence of expenditure.

With regard to possible performance in Ireland, funding available through the Department is for the promoton of Irish culture abroad, not in this country.

No application has been received by the cultural relations committee in connection with staging the production in the United States.
