241 Mr. M. Brady asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the maximum number of provisional licences that any individual can obtain; and the rules which apply in this case. [5201/98]
There is no limit to the number of provisional licences a person may obtain. However, in order to be entitled to a third or subsequent provisional licence for any particular category of vehicle, a person must have undergone a driving test for that category within the preceding two years or, failing that, have a driving test appointment arranged, in which case the provisional licence is granted for one year only. Entitlement to a provisional licence for a higher category of vehicle — that is trucks, buses, vehicle and trailer or heavy motor cycles — may also be contingent on possession of a full licence for a relevant lower category.
