Vol. 487 No. 7

Written Answers. - Swimming Pool Projects.

Denis Naughten

Question:

243 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when funding will be allocated for Roscommon town and Ballaghaderreen swimming pools in County Roscommon; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5242/98]

Contract documents for the refurbishment of the Roscommon town swimming pool, with an estimated cost of £1.5 million, were submitted to my Department in October 1996. Having regard to the high level of demand for swimming pool funding generally it is not possible to indicate when funding will be available for Roscommon town swimming pool.

The new pool proposal for Ballaghaderreen is also estimated to cost £1.5 million. It will not be possible to simultaneously fund both projects and it will, therefore, be some considerable time before any commitment can be given to provide funding for the Ballaghaderreen pool.
