Question:260 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science if he would make a statement on the issues raised in the correspondence (details supplied) regarding the Education Bill, 1997. [5137/98]

I am aware of the correspondence to which the Deputy refers.
I have noted carefully the issues raised in the correspondence, and I will be examining them carefully as the Bill progresses through the various legislative Stages in the Oireachtas.
I emphasise that the Bill was produced following an extensive process of consultation with the partners in education and as a result, it has received a generally warm welcome. I intend to continue this consultation process as the Bill proceeds through the Oireachtas.
